Talking Planning Trip with Beginning Teenage Diver

I'm an experienced diver and I am planning a trip for myself and my 14 year old son, who was just certified last summer. I am looking for a destination that will be best for a beginning diver and provide some topside activities that he would enjoy. I'm thinking something like Placencia in Belize where the diving is good and we can go explore the rainforest and ruins.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to destinations and resorts that cater to divers but also have decent topside diversions? I prefer places that cater primarily to divers and to stay away from crowded places.

Thanks in advance.

Diving is excellent in Roatan, How about Anthony's Key, they cater to divers and more specific families. They could arrange island actives, jungle hikes, zip runs, that type of stuff. I have always stayed at Cocoview but all adults are in my dive group.

If you go Bahama's June, July and August is what the boat captain told me was the best time. He grew up in the Bahama's. Grand Bahama would have the best topside stuff.

Grand Cayman has stuff to do but be prepared to spend the dollars.

An eco-trip adventure trip might be something fun. Costa Rica has some good ones.

Just a few to think about, Roatan is still my first pick.

Bonaire is another place to consider. The diving is great and easy, and the island also offers windsurfing, kayaking, and trekking opportunities.

I started diving with my parents at 15. We went to Cozumel a lot because it was a cheaper trip with great diving, and my mom is a fan of the warm water. They also tend to not be as crazy and crowded as other tourist towns. Like most destinations almost any hotel can accomodate you with fun above the water activities!

Default Many Thanks

I stayed at Cocoview back in 2000, and Ambergis Caye in 2005, and Bonaire in 2003. I'm intrigues by the Costa Rica option. Anybody have suggestions on the Sea side as to resorts etc.?
