Default diving in the amazone

I've heard that it was possible to dive in the amazone during the dry season , does anyone know anything else about this?

I think that i'd be pretty scared about diving in the amazon river.... you find alligators and piranhas in there don't you? (and probably other things i don't even want to imagine)
